Learn the rules and strategies for solving sudoku puzzles
The Goal
Fill a 9×9 grid so that every row, column, and 3×3 box contains the digits 1-9 exactly once.
Rows
Each horizontal row must contain the numbers 1-9 exactly once.
Columns
Each vertical column must contain the numbers 1-9 exactly once.
3×3 Boxes
Each 3×3 box (there are 9 total) must contain the numbers 1-9 exactly once.
Basic Strategy
Start with these fundamental techniques
1. Look for Singles
Find cells where only one number can fit by checking what numbers are already used in the same row, column, and box.
2. Scan Rows, Columns, and Boxes
Look for numbers that can only go in one place within a row, column, or box.
3. Use Process of Elimination
Make notes of possible numbers for each cell, then eliminate options as you fill in more cells.
4. Start with Easy Areas
Focus on rows, columns, and boxes that already have the most numbers filled in.
